Well my first post in over 6 months. Kind of forgot about this, but got a call and was told to write some more, so i shall.

In the past 6 months alot has gone on in what the media would call 'Urban Music'....i.e the Politically correct term for music predominately produced, written or performed by Black people. But I'm not going to go into this today.

Following on from this, for the first time since there launch in 1995, the MOBO's (Music Of Black Origin) Awards where held outside of London. Where were they held you say, in another location with a large black population, like Birmingham, or London, or Bristol? No don't be silly, they where held in Glasgow, a city with the smallest number of Black inhabitants for a Capital City in the whole of Western Europe, a City where the Chinese population is double that of the Black population.

Ok enough with the demographics, lets look at who actually won these 'stellar' awards. I know these awards are mainly for UK acts, but come on, Chipmunk winning best HipHop act, winning over the likes of Eminem and Kanye West, please Chipmunk has had two singles out this year, one getting to number 21 the other at number 6, that doesn't constitute a HipHop winner in my eyes.

Now lets get onto N-Dubz, who won Best UK act & Best Album, a group who on their own have never had a single in the top 15 (the number 1, aptly named Number 1 with Tinchy Stryder doesn't count) again does that make them the UK's Top Act? No it doesn't. Going against acts like Tinchy Stryder, Dizzee Rascal and even Mr Hudson (who i have alot of time for, the guy is an unknown talent). Im far from a fan of Rascals new material, but he should of won hands down. Hes had 3 Number 1's in a row for gods sake.

And don't even get me started on Sean Paul winning the best reggae act, i know Vybz Kartel & Movado cant win because of violent and homophobic lyrics, but Tarrus Riley has come about as one of the best new roots artists in recent times. While Sean Paul does watered down pop songs.

But i believe the main crime of the Mobo's is the fact there is on Grime category. Grime arguably is the biggest Black orientated musical genre in the country along with HipHop. And for unknown reason the Mobo's continuously boycott grime from their awards. I think its a disgrace that a genre with numerable followers are not counted for in a awards ceremony for 'Music Of Black Origin', i know there is violent connotation in alot of the lyrics contained in grime, but at the same time you have alot of mainly conscious artists like Black the Ripper, Bashy, Devlin, Wretch 32, JME et al, I'm not asking for Big H or Chronik to be nominated but i believe that its a total joke that a genre of its size has not got any showing in an awards of the Mobo's size.

Anyway this is going on for a bit too long, i shall do another post soon i promise, but for now I'm going to leave you with a little mix i did a few days ago, bare with me, i haven't used decks in years, so don't expect a DJ Maximum worthy mix, but its alright still.

Grime meets funky house

Big new tune by Wiley.
Not been feeling his work for a while now.
Playtime is over, was a major let down, any album with Jookie Mundo on there is doomed to be shit.
Anyway it seems hes back to his best. Two mixtapes out next month. A new Album out in the summer. And what i believe to be a single that might actually get into the elysium of the music world, the top ten singles chart.
Its a disgustingly sick funky house tune produced by Bless Beatz called 'What would we do'.
Im not a massive fan of funky house, but when i heard this on radio i was skankin it out.
If you aint heard it. Well is on 1xtra like every other 5 songs so u cant really miss it.
I would put the rip up on here, but im not a ripper/bootlegger, so that game aint me.
But if this marketed properly, and the smoking of hard food doesnt make wiley lazy i can see this being a breakthrough for Wiley in the music business. Which should really of happened when Eskimo came out, what 5 years ago.
